3 Reasons to Buy Mulch in Bulk (Not in Bags)

Bulk mulch or bagged mulch? That is the question. Well, we think the answer is easy, but we’re also a little biased. As mulchologists, we know mulch better than most. Hardwood mulch, dyed mulch, playground mulch…you see where this is going. But if you’re on the fence or just curious if bulk mulch is right for you, let us break it down.

A higher quality product

In general, bulk mulch will be a better product because of where it comes from. Most bulk mulch comes from local businesses and manufacturers (like us!) where it’s ground down on-site and distributed directly to homeowners. Bagged mulch, on the other hand, is often sold three to six months after it has been ground and packaged and can sit in storage facilities of big-box stores for even longer.

When working through a local business like GreenCycle, product quality is under control. We manufacture, produce, and personally handle all of our own organic mulches, composts, and soil blends from recycled yard and wood materials - so you can feel good about what you are adding to your yard.

It saves you money (and time)

The truth of the matter is buying mulch by the bulk is oftentimes much less expensive than buying the same amount of mulch in bags. Crazy, we know. It also saves you time, as we can deliver it directly to you. Or, if you want to flex your muscle a bit, you can pick it up at one of our locations.

However, we recommend buying in bulk only for the bigger jobs. You’ll want to make sure the project you’re working on will need at least a cubic yard of mulch - think about 13.5 bags or so. This is the same for our soils and decorative rocks. For big home projects, bulk is definitely the way to go.

Better for the environment…by a long shot

Bulk mulch is also the more eco-friendly choice. GreenCycle is proudly in the business of sustainable and renewable practices and resources, producing its mulch products from recycled yard, wood, and food waste. We believe the ingredients for superior landscaping products can be found in our own backyards.

Annually, we keep about a quarter million cubic yards of wood waste out of the landfill. Plus, no additional packaging means no unnecessary plastic waste. GreenCycle alone keeps 3.4 million plastic bags out of the landfill. For every yard you order, that’s 13.5 plastic bags that won’t go to a landfill – 2 cubic yards each, with 27 cubic feet to a yard. By simply buying in bulk you can feel good about doing your part in creating a more sustainable future for our community.
