Creeping red fescue is a fine fescue turfgrass with a tillering, rhizome spreading type root structure. Having low fertility and maintenance requirements, creeping red fescue will tolerate a wide range of soil pH. Characteristics include very good drought tolerance, shade tolerance and fair tolerance to traffic. Fine Fescues are fine bladed grass with a medium to dark green color. Fine Fescues generally germinate about 12-22 days.

Kentucky Bluegrass is the most popular type of lawn grass in the Midwest. Kentucky Bluegrass mixes well with ryegrass to provide a very nice lawn. Bluegrass takes the most maintenance of any turfgrass and will go dormant before ryegrasses and tall fescues. Bluegrass generally germinates in 20-25 days.

Ryegrass varieties are very dark green and durable. They provide the excellent look of a well maintained fairway on a golf course. Ryegrass varieties are selected for enhanced gray leaf spot resistance. Ryegrass exhibits quick germination and provides quick ground cover to hold the soil. Ryegrass often goes dormant after bluegrasses but before tall fescues. Ryegrass generally germinates in 7-10 days.
